  • A DAY AWAY

    O’er breakfast we did talkies,
    Decided to get away,
    And go to the rockies,
    So we did,  oy veh.

    DSCN0032

    And as usual they come,
In different sizes, colors and shapes,
    And some,
    Seem to show toothless gapes.

    DSCN0046

And some like a playful child,
Did arrange them in a childish whim,.
    Into something wild,
    With meaning dim.

    DSCN0047

    Soon we reached our goal,
Up high wide and handsome the park,
    Makes us whole,
    And ready for a lark.

    DSCN0092

    Trail Ridge Road our intent,
    Over the divide,
    Instead we went,
    To Moraine Park.

    DSCN0168

    Where elk were in rut,
    Bugles blowing,
    Occasional head butt,
Stag in all his majesty guarding his  herd.

We lingered too long to make the trip on Trail Ridge Road,  but did come back a different route and on the way we took our picture at an overlook.

    DSCN0246

Tallest peak over her left shoulder is the back side of Long’s Peak (other side which can be seen from I-25)
And the innin’ gridiot himself, on the edge and not pushed over.

    DSCN0239

I know,  the light’s not right, did the best we could,
    Saves from culture shock,
Of viewing the aged,  that’s good,
Neither of us a jock !

In my computer I can zoom in on the stag and his wonderful spread of antlers.I will  e-mail the picture full size to whoever sends me their e-mail addy.

Doug still having trouble,  but did his physical therapy exercises and then spent the rest of his day with his foot elevated above his heart.   Says it helps keep the swelling down.    Also said that the medics offered no help or senisble advice.   We pray while wishing there was more that we could do to help.

    BUMMER

    Errands niggle,
    Patience narrows,
    As we wiggle,
    About  like sparrows.

    Thus went the day,
    Much like others do,
End result ? Nerves in fray,
    In a fatigue stew.

I have been remiss in not keeping up in the blog on  our son Doug.   If you are on my notify list for my dairy and blog you are aware of late happenings.
Our son Doug came home about noon Tuesday,  his temp 99, NRI (Pro time) acceptable,  swelling on the knee down.  Yesterday he was doing okay and his spirits were high,  he walked with his walker a bit.  Talked to him tonight,  he tells us that the swelling has gone to his foot,  he has stayed inactive and will let his doctor know of the state of affairs Friday morning (tomorrow)
Please keep praying for him,  this latest development is frightening.
My apologies for not putting anything in the blog.

  • VENERABILITY

    Some of us age gracefully,
Some of us don’t live that long,
Some of these buildings have aged beautifully,
    Long lived, hale and strong.

    DSCN9449

    Each has its own story,
Wish I knew a few of them,
    Lives lived, some gory,
    Some peaceful, deserving a diadem.

    DSCN9450

    Others fitted into,
    Triangular lots,
    Doing business with the new,
    Filling their slots.

    DSCN9439

And some stick out their chests,
    Bragging their years,
    Much like rooster’s crests,
    That’s dignity my dears.

    DSCN9392

    And castles were some,
    No moaty ditches,
But towers of stone with a dome,
    Might have been a witches.

    Might I age rightly,
    As many as these have,
    Present a face as sprightly,
Maybe give it a lave ?

  • THE ALL OF IT

    Mountains, clouds and sky,
    And all that,
Makes my heart and soul fly.

    DSCN6420

    DSCN7521

    Prairie flat,
Sage covered, with mesas a ways back,
    And all that,
    Welcome me back.

    ‘Tis my world,
    Filled with animals and pine,
    That you’ve been hurled,
    It’s so fine !

    WELCOME

  • NOT A HEADLIGHT

At the end ot the tunnel,
But the relief of knowing a few things,
And our son in good spirits – now the fun’ll,
Begin, because his release is in sight, happiness brings.

I am putting here what I put in my diary entry tonight,  so that I didn’t miss anything.

    EASED A BIT

Information provided today by Doug’s doctor. When they drained our son’s knee, Psuedo Gout was discovered. Same pain – different crystals (calcium type rather than uric acid). They drained it again today. He was given a shot of something like cortisone which has given him relief and doctor is prescribing oral medication for him to use too.

Googling around on Psuedo Gout, a lot is explained.

Due to the fact that he has been on Coumadin (warfarin) for years due to blood clot problems and he was taken off all such things prior to surgery, problems developed and the medics tried to bring his INR to the proper level with heparin – which hasn’t been working. They are talking about letting him use Coumadin again. In the meantime his release from hospital depends on his INR level being within range, his temperature near normal and being able to bear weight on his knees.

The thought advanced is that the hip surgery and the necessary rotation of the femur possibly caused the Pseudo Gout problem to come into being.

The doctor without consulting his medical information made the asinine remark on the order of, “You are aware that you need surgery on your knee ?” Sheesh Doug has been bone on bone with both knees, white knuckling it ‘til he could get the hip surgery done.

This evening when we visited him he was feeling much better, had eaten decently and rested well during the night.

So for the time being he is in a holding pattern, waiting for INR level to come into the normal range (blood clotting which is helped by Coumadin), temperature to get in the prescibed range so that they will let him come home. Then comes the months of physical therapy . . . . . . . .

It was wonderful to see him in good spirits and feeling better tonight. Hope that continues ad infinitum and his Dad and Mom’s minds are EASED A BIT . . . . . . . .

We had lunch with our granddaughter early this afternoon,  (Rob’s oldest daughter) at Jerusalem Cafe a place almost on DU campus,  specializing in Middle Eastern food.

    DSCN9791

Heather and grandaughter at  right rear.

Then Heather and I took flowers to Rob’s grave at Fort Logan,  today is his birthday.

    DSCN9811

Thence on the way home I saw some of the denizens of the sky zoo disporting themselves in a wild cavort.

Home to rest a while and then to hospital to see Doug.

  • THAT HELPLESS FEELING

    When the kids are grown,
    And on their own,
I guess I have no right to moan,
About seeds  of pain the world has sown,
But it hurts even more, that I can do nothing but knowin’.
    ——————————————————————–
The doctor drained Doug’s knee Friday and hasn’t been around Saturday or Sunday he is still running a low grade fever,  still in pain.   Did bear physical therapy today, has no appetite.  Nurses on his floor are good to him and tonight a machine that cools water was wheeled in,  a plastic sock put on his leg and attached to the machine,  so there will be cool water circulating through the sock,  they are hoping to bring the swelling down.  Staff is doing what they can but Doug needs information from his doctor – - – hope he makes an appearance Monday morning and can at lease clue him in on what he should expect and etc.

  • A LONG DAY

    Not much new,
    Errands normal,
    Much to do,
    At day’s end get formal.

    Visit our son,
     A fever running,
    Pain level five,
    A knee being cunning.

    Swelling,
    Docs trying to find why,
    No way of telling,
    If he’ll go home by,
    Sunday.
    ————————————————–
Poor kid,  he has to get over this surgery in order to shape up for knee replacement,   long hard row ahead.  The docs put off his discharge,  tentatively Sunday now.

Thanks for your prayers and good vibes,  I am sure they are helping.

    Early in the game,
But son had a comfortable night,
    His morale is the same,
Physical therapy twice, full of fight.

Ate a typical meal for him,
    This afternoon,
He doesn’t want to be slim,
    But bulk up soon.

He was flanked on his bed,
    With two grandchildren loving,
His mate zapping through crocheting thread,
Life goes on, things are moving.
    ———————————————————
I was too tired to continue last night and we haven’t  heard from him this morning yet.
Our son is the man on the left,  picture taken recently.

    A SIGN ?

    Inspiration in weird guise,
    Came my way today,
Led me to sun’s glory and size,
    And I’d have to say,
‘Tis a God moment, if I were wise.

Camera monitor didn’t show it well,
But did show my aim was pretty good,
    That’s all it would tell,
I did the best I could.

    This picture is thanks,
For what has been given us.
    ———————————————

Our son had his hip surgery today,  which sounds minor,  but at age  63 going for a second bionic hip bone did sound scary to me.   Surgery went well and we are so glad.

  • A WHIFF

    Somewhat swiftly,
    Not at all welcome,
    Facing it stiffly,
    Oncoming weather’s bum.

Overnight low of 39 was said,
    Weather man reported,
Think it hit it right on the head,
So, today I a bathrobe and sweats sported.

    Reminds me too well,
    SAD weather ahead,
Tells me that first snow, oh hell,
    Soon will be shed !

    DSCN0423

    But then  things will cheer,
    Mild sunny weather,
    Shall reappear,
    We’ll have another picnic together.
