  • DO   YOU LOVE ME ?

    Tevye,  Fiddler on the Roof,
    Bluster, macho man,
    Much of him spoof,
    Spouting tradition,
Yet a hard worker, inclined to goof.

Toward the end of the show,
Comes the song "Do You Love Me ?"
In which his wife, usually silent you know,
    Answers Tevye's question,
With a litany of tasks of love,
That only a loving wife would show.

Much it is with  Heather and I,
And has been from the start,
She working away with a quiet sigh,
    Me, a big "I" with a  heart,

    Through the years,
We gave of ourselves to each other,
    Fighting fears, shedding tears,
    Watching life uncover,
    Our fine children, the dears,
Grow to people better than we.

    DO YOU LOVE ME ?

Oh,  my dearest,  you know I do !

  • Awww, that's cute!

  • It's cute that you identify with Tevye, the Yiddish speaking milkman from the Pale of Settlement.  A blessing on your head, mazel tov, mazel tov/To see your eldest daughter wed, mazel tov, mazel tov...And such a son-in-law...As no one EVER saw...THE TAILOR MOTTEL KANZOIL!!!!!!

Some of my sister's ex-boyfriends would make Mottel Kanzoil look like a veritable "oytzar" (treasure), especially if you ask my father to describe his impressions of them.

  • This is nice Doug. Judi

  • What a sweet poem! I love that movie and I love your comparison of your life/marriage to Tevye and his wife (wasn't her name "Golda"?) Wives are wonderful, and I know you got a GREAT one! Hugs to you and to your dear Heather!

Hey, how are you feeling today!?!?

Hugs, Stay Warm, and Happy Friday!

  • What a beautiful post!

  • I love that Fiddler on the Roof. " Sunrise , Sunset..."Where is the little girl I carried....?"  She's 52 years old now...Still very much my little girl and my little boy who just turned 51.  "Wasn't it yesterday when they were small?"

Love does grow sweeter through the passing years when we go through so much together.

  • Your poem was incredibly sweet. And I always loved the last line of the original song: "It doesn't change a thing, but even so, after twenty-five years it's nice to know."

  • What a beautiful tribute to Heather.  Yes, the older we get, the more we tend to take each other for granted.  But at the same time, we know our time together is drawing closer to it's end, and we also appreciate our spouse more and more.  I am very much spoiled, and I know it----especially since Ken has retired.  God certainly led me to the right person to spend my life with, and I have never regretted it!  (Although, on days like today, when it is hovering near zero outside, I might wish HE would have found someone for me who wanted to live in a warm climate! lol)

  • doug,  you are just the sweetest, neatest guy.  does heather ever read this?  take care.

  • That's an inspiration.

  • The two of you are so sweet and you are a sweet hubby to post these things.

  • beautiful:)
