  • A DAY  OF REMEMBRANCE

    My day today was spent,
    Doing necessary physical things,
But my thoughts and heart went,
    Remembering the ills service brings.

The months of duty away from loved ones,
And when the time's up, the tour extended,
And still to face the enemy's guns,
And the  IEDs by him expended.

    Barracks life beats tent life,
    But not by much,
    Bachelor life is rife,
    With  longings and such.

    Through the mists of time,
    Man has been at war,
Veterans are ill considered most of the time,
And are not well cared for in hospital and rehab amid the gore.

Just one day a year we are asked to remember the vets,
Buy a poppy, shed a tear in condolence,
Little enough a service person gets,
At most a bit of somnolence,
    Perhaps peaceful sleep   is met.

My remembrance and thanks go out to service people everywhere,
I was there but a while,  a tech rep,
Who saw much of what you must bear,
And who feels that love and attention should be there for you all year.

  • Great thoughts for a special day. Thanks for helping us all remember all the soliders who fought and are still fighting for all of us

PS. Thanks for the idea to pick up a worry rock or two--that would be a good thing to carry in my pocket !!

  • ryc on TLM0000 - Frankl was a wonderful, tremendous man.  As an existentialist he is one of the people whose philosophy most influenced me.    I wonder if you read Yalom?  Also an existentialist with a Jewish background (almost a given for psychotherapists/psychologists!) he too was a man with heart.

  • This morning I see one local tv station is doing a series on the 'lousy' care vets are getting in this "Military City". Guess the station didn't read the paper write up on how great it is here for them.

  • Amen, friend, amen.    Ava

  • How many are dead ? How many poppies in my area of Somme ?

    In friendship
    Michel
