  • HOLIDAY ?

    Christmas near,
    Pink slip in one hand,
    Turkey and gear,
    In the other, I land.

    Thinking I'm glad,
    Christmas presents are under tree,
    Somewhat sad,
    Brief unemployment for me,
    Wondering I had,
What will next job be ?

    Will it pay enough ?
I'm ready to go from one job to another,
Will it be very rough ?
Fending off the feeling of smother.

    But, 'tis Christmas,
    Our kids fed and gifted,
Bills are up to date,  but alas,
    Into unemployment I've drifted.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Funny thing,  this happened to me several times, (always just before Thanksgiving or Christmas),   I filed for unemployment.  Went through the mill and was told there was no job for me that would pay what I had been earning and that they couldn't send a person to a job that paid less than they had been earning.   So - - before I would get an unemployment check I would find my own job  - - - maybe two.

  • i can relate *hugs*

  • Yeah, we have been through that experience. It's a silly thing to say we can't send you to a job that pays less than you were making to a person that is worried about bills, family and food. Oh, the glorious system. I love the photos.

  • You know my husband I am sure could relate to that sense of responsibility... and while he goes to work grateful to be able to have a good job he has been out of work a few times and he too sometimes feels that feeling of smother. He laments about the things he has not accomplished, he looks at the very ambitious younger people and thinks he could have taken that track but I tell him he is a good father which to me is the epitome of success .Your post reminded me to never take that sacrifice he makes in time and freedom for granted.

  • Seems as if lay-offs always come when they will ruin the holidays for families.

  • I have seen that experience unfold...

  • I saw that happen to the security guards at the hospital where I used to work.  The hospital decided to hire an "outside firm" to handle security and told the employees on December 18th.  They did get first chance, though, to be hired on with the outsourced security group.  I guess it's because it's the end of the year, they have to make decisions like this.  I know a family who "makes" Christmas gifts for one another, so perhaps that's a pretty good idea, to give of yourself, instead of buying from a store.  This was a very good post, Doug.

  • Christmas is creeping up on us again. I'm not a big Christmas person since we dont have any little ones any more and they make Christmas fun.

  • we have had that happen too-thankfully not before the holidays. it was always at the back of my mind tho and one of the reasons I usually have christmas shopping done by sept.
I hope all is well for you my friend.

  • Ken was always in construction, so he was usually off work a good part of the winter.  When he had his own masonry business, we had to rely on savings to see us through.  Once he went into the union, and worked for someone else, that unemployment always came in handy.  I remember my sis saying that she could not imagine living the way we did.  Her salaried hubby worked in management for a large company, and they could budget, and knew where every penny came from and went to.  We could never do that!!  We never knew what money would come in----depended on how much work he had.  Sometimes it was feast or famine.  But, we made it!  And I don't think we lacked for anything we needed.

  • I suspect this will be happening to many these holidays coming up.
