  • WET ‘N’ DRY

    Out driving one day,
We came across a pleasant lake,
Thought it’d be nice to stay,
    And take a short break.

    So peaceful and serene,
    A salve to the soul,
    ‘Twould mean,
    But, ’twas not our goal.

    To a xeriscapy place,
    Bound we were,
    Not kind to a face,
    Ideal for dry growth here.

Remarkable how a small amount of water,
    Can elicit such growth,

    Such intricate beauty,
    As from an enchantress’ needle,

    Rather our city,
    Be amass,
    By this pretty,
    Than water hungry grass.

  • What you doing for the labor day weekend? Judi

  • My husband after maintianing a pecan orchard and three acres of lawn is delighted to have a yard with no lawn , just lots of interesting groundcover .he has also become a major fan of bamboo ,both the the kind you can trust to respect boundaries and the kind that sends rhizomes out several feet a day.He has contained that with different barriers..nong story short when bamboo leaves cover the ground they make a lovely surface to walk on .I love sitting in the bamboo. it makes a lacy kind of light.I think it would do everyone well if we considered more variety in our plantings.

  • looks like a great place to be.

  • oooh what a delight your blog is to me!  this is a wonderful respite here.  i think i will stay for awhile.

  • If I lived in the west I think I would do everything “dry” and not have to worry about grass and normal flowers that need constant watering.

  • Great pictures, Doug.

We still need rain here in North Carolina.  We are still under water restrictions.  The weather has cooled down, thankfully, and everyone is enjoying is so much.  But our grass is brown and we sure need a few raindrops.

If it rains, I am going out to the street and dance in it.

I really enjoy visiting your blog.
