  • FUSION OF CONFUSION

I went to the zoo today,
    It startled me muchly,
To find I was the one on display,
    Fate has a hate suchly.

On my way out I went to,
An Easter egg hunt on Labor day,
And was plastered with egg nog goo,
Startled by Thanksgiving firecrackers, oh I say !

    I do wonder,
    What day my birthday,
    Through some remarkable blunder,
Will happen on a weird hour ?

    DSCN9076

    The light is red,
But the cloud zoo marches on,
    Boggles my head,
Think I’ll have a bon bon.

  • LA EAST ?

    In 1990 back when,
    I was not  yet retired,
    A third shifter then,
Other work bound folk, were wired.

    Me ?  I was tired,
On the way home  I would start over a  hill,
And see Denver where smog conspired,
And where my home was still.

Today we went to Red Rocks,
And the glorious view to the south,
    That once was,
    Today was a foggy-smoggy drought,
    More hard knocks,
    Fear the EPA

  • WHERE THE SIDEWALK ENDS

There is a man who has occupied,
    Similar places,
    That I’d,
     And his language graces !

Shel Silverstein, bless his soul, words of his, here quoted,
    And duly noted.

“There is a place where the sidewalk ends
    And before the street begins,
And there  the grass grows soft and white,
And there the sun burns crimson bright,
And the moon-bird rests from his flight,
To cool in the peppermint wind.”

Ah Shel,  you have been in my neighborhoods,
    Heard the bees,
    While walking through our woods,
    Buzzing their knees.

    DSCN9070

Out where no man would dare utter,
    Such things as,
    Curb and gutter,
    And all that  jazz.

    DSCN9069

Here is where our sidewalk ends,
    Out where we live,
    Blacktop sends,
    Civilizations shiv.

Would that I a child could be,
    Once again,
And walk out to where the sidewalk ends.

  • SHADOW MOUNTAINS

    Off to clinic,
At a place in the country used to be,
But looking at developments, this cynic,
Says the metro area has become a sea.

Yet there are sights to see,

    DSCN9045

Clouds for the most part can’t hide the hills,
Nature frowning predicts rain to be,
Dry land against rain, clash of wills.

    DSCN9027

    Mountains are there,
    Standing strong,
    Their beauty share,
    All along.

    DSCN9042

    And in the end,
    Above I see,
    What nature doth send,
    Rain in town for me.

    I know that tomorrow,
    She sun will show,
    That it was temporary sorrow,
    Mountains no longer in shadow.

  • BDW 2

    Weekend birthday’s are over,
    Birthday of a lady in-law,
    And a feast moreover,
    A Xantac down my maw.

    DSCN8996

Heather and I attempting to finish,
    Our meal,
    Knowing that to winnish,
Had to have room to deal,
    With,
Ice cream and cake and to seal,
    Coffee strong !

    Golly it was fun,
    Family galore,
Glad there are weeks more than one,
    Before there are more.

  • BIRTHDAY WEEKEND

A family as big as ours,
It seems birthdays come in a row,
    Or sometimes in fours,
However it happens ’tis a joy you know.

    Friday we left town early,
    Somewhat awake,
    Coffeed and not surly,
    With presents to take.

    TO

    DSCN8811

    Daughter for her 59th birthday,
    And the day was spent,
    In love and play,
MacDonalds and the park we went.

    DSCN8832

Then to a show, The Simpsons,
    And thence to her dwelling,
    Mother and daughter spent some,
Time putting her stuff away and  me spelling,
A man in that environment is a bum,
    Sat and visited, just jelling.

‘Twas dark when we got home,
    Tired, yet happy,
Dulled like an old knife some,
I fell in bed for a long, long nappy.

    TODAY

    Slept in awhile,
    Got ready to go,
To another birthday party in style,
One for a great grandson’s you know,

    DSCN8936

He hit his fourth ‘ere it hit him,
Picked a picture for his face,
    Long, weird and slim,
    Thus began the race.

    DSCN8937

    This lass a spiderweb had,

    DSCN8925

    Great grandson Ian,
    Went for a simpler design,
    One that’d fit with skiin’
My face already too many a line,
We left after a grand supper.

    And tomorrow we shall go,
    To another birthday show.

  • SUMMER SUNSETS

    DSCN7712

    Every second it changes,
    Hue and tone,
    A bit of strangeness,
    And then ’tis gone.

    But in my very being,
    Is glee and peace,
    Happiness in seeing,
The paint brush across cloudy fleece.

  • THE JOY OF SOUND

Today I heard what Heather said,
As we rode in our car,
I heard sounds in or house I thought were dead,
And in the dusk tonight it was topped by far.

    I heard crickets outside,
Not heard by me for years,
    What a joyful ride,
    For my  ear.

I got my new hearing aid today,  with most of the bells and whistles.   Having only one workable ear there are things that can’t be sorted out by me,  but hearing things I wasn’t able to hear for so long is worth a celebration.

  • IT IS CLEAR UP HERE

    DSCN8710

    Clear Creek in Silver Plume,
    Is clear up here,
As it goes in civilization’s flume,
It gets muddier perhaps solid I fear.

    DSCN8707

    Though a rough mining town,
    In days of yore,
    A band shell,
    They had amenities and more.

    DSCN8728

    A grand school building,
        Of 1856, stone and brick,
    Still stands without gilding,
    A museum today, ain’t that a trick ?

    DSCN8724

    And dating near there,
    Is a house of worship,
    Where souls could share,
    And holiness sip.

Heather and I went up that way today,   remembering how things were in our young days,  much had changed, but evenso old landmarks yet stood out.    Tonight we are at peace.

  • DSCN6358

Oh, if that could only be me,
    With faithful companion tugging ahead,
    And yet I can see,
My feet and other parts full of lead.

But you can’t stop me from wanting,
    Back to  days of yore,
    When fate never daunting
I could do that and more.
